Does Hyderabad really belongs to Telangana?
(Brig (Retd) GB Reddi)

The relentless misinformation campaign being carried out by some pro-Telangana votaries that Hyderabad belongs to Telangana, in fact stands exposed, if one peeps into history pages.

To establish the veracity of such claims, I made a sincere effort to provide a detailed review of various Treaties that have been carried out since 13th century.

Some of the key events are given below, for the convenience of our website visitors (or netizens) for reviewing in detail.

1. 1345-1526 AD - Establishment of Bahmani Sultanate after conquering Daulatabad by Zafar
Khan also known as Bahman Shaw, a Turkish or Afghan Officer. Extended from the North of Krishna River to South of Narmada from East to West Coast.

2. 1512-1687 AD - Golconda ruled by Qutub Shai dynasty on disintegration of Bahmani Kingdom into
Berar, Ahmadnagar, Bidar and Bijapur. Quli Qutub Shah, Shia, extended his rule
by capturing forts at Warnagal, Kondapalli, Eluru, Rajamundry and Khammam and
all the territories between the mouths of Krishna and Godavari rivers. Qutubshahi
dynasty was the first Muslim dynasty to rule all Telugus.
3. 1591 AD - Charminar built.
4. Oct 1687 AD - Mughal rule after Aurangazeb captured Golconda .
5. 1713 AD - Nizam appointed as Subedar of 6 subas of Deccan and Faujdar, Karnataka
6. 11 Oct 1724 - Nizam-ul-Mulk defeats Mubarez Khan and establishes supremacy in Deccan.
7. 25 June 1725 - Emperor Muhammed Shah confers the title of Asaf Jah on Nizam-ul-Mulk.
8. 3rd Feb 1751 - Bussy proclaims Nizam-ul-Mulk Salabat Jung as the Subedar of the Deccan.
9. Dec 1753 - French assigned districts of Mustafanagar, Rajahmundry, Elur & Chicacole
10. 1756 - French are driven out of the northern Circars by the British force.
11. 14 May 1759 - Treaty with the British for the grant of all coastal districts.
12. 1763 - The capital of Deccan is shifted from Aurangabad to Hyderabad.

13. 12 Nov 1765 - Treaty with the British including compensatory payments for coastal dists.
14. 1779 - Treaty of Alliance, with BAZALUT JUNG.
15. 1798 - Treaty of 1798 to join the British against Tipu Sultan during Mysore War.
Col. Lang established HQ of British Subsidiary force.
16. 1799 - Partition Treaty of Mysore between the British and the Nizam – ceded dists.
17. 1816 - Elphinstone Proclamation.
18. 1822 - Partition Treaty of Maratha Territories.
19. 1831 - Partition Treaty of Maratha territories.
20. 1853 - Berar Treaty signed. Berar dist to British with annual revenue of Rs. 50 Lakh.

In other words, the Deccan Sultans ruled over the Deccan Plateau, between River Narmada in the North to River Krishna in the South and beyond, until they conceded vast tracts to the British after 1750s. They used revenues from all territories to establish Hyderabad, particularly from Coastal areas and Ceded Districts from Six Subas.

Therefore, the misinformation campaign needs to be verified historically for their validity and placed in a balanced perspective for posterity for future generations. (The author can be contacted at krishna_reddi@hotmail.com)
