CEC refuses to intervene in Jagan's arrest

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quershi on Tuesday decided not to intervene in the arrest of YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy as the matter was pending with the CBI special court.

Talking to media persons after discussing about honorary president of YSR Congress Party Y S Vijayamma's petition seeking the intervention of Central Election Commission to get her son Jagan Mohan Reddy's release from jail, Quershi expressed his helplessness over the issue.

He said that the courts have to take a decision and the Election Commission would not intervene in judicial matters.

It may be mentioned that Vijayamma wrote a letter to the CEC and sought Qureshi's intervention to get her son released from jail.

In the letter, Vijayamma accused the CBI of acting under the instructions from the Central Government with the sole aim of keeping Jagan away from the campaigning for the ensuing by-polls.
