  28 legislators attend Jagan's rally

(Kiran Kumar Raju from Kakinada)

The Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy Thursday night sent out a veiled message to the party leadership suggesting his patience might be wearing thin about the "injustice" done to his "ardent supporters".

He was addressing a public meeting organised to conclude his second phase of 19-day Odarpu Yatra (consoling those families whose members died of shock or heart attack or ended life on hearing the death of his father and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash last September). As many as 28 legislators and 10 MLCs, besides the a Minister attended the meeting to express their solidarity to the young MP.

"A lot of injustice is being done to my ardent supporters like Konda Surekha (former minister who quit in protest against not making Jaganmohan chief minister) and Ambati Rambabu (former MLA who was suspended from party). I am unable to tolerate this. I don?t know how long I will continue to be restrained like this", Jagan told a public meeting in Kakinada town.

He said "my heart is heavy today with pain. The reason is we have Konda Surekha and Ambati Rambabu in our presence.

"I don't know when I will lose my patience. Some of those who opposed to my father and had no courage to face him during his living days, are trying to attack me and my family members," he said holding back his emotions. However, he said he could overcome any hurdle put before him his rivals within the party and in Opposition with the massive support of people and his late father's blessings. "I wouldn't have been standing here today, had you not showered so much of love and affection. Who says I am alone? None can isolate me from you (pointing his fingers towards the crowd)," he said.

Though his speech was brief, yet the young MP could convey his feelings to his detractors within the party as well to the party leadership. His supporters feel that some seniors within the party are trying to create wedge between the young MP and the party leadership.

Eearlier, the Minister for Social Welfare P Subash Chandra Bose said some of them could not restrain themselves from attending his Odarpu Yatra as they were so closely associated with the late Chief Minister. He recalled YSR immense contribution in bringing back the party to power twice in the state as well effectively implementing several welfare schemes to benefit the poor in the state. "YSR was a mass leader and now his Jagan inherits that legacy. The people of East Godavari just cannot forget the services rendered by the late leader. They are now paying their obeissance to the young leader for the benefits they reaped of YSR schemes," he said and added; "I bow my head before entire district populace for showing so much of love and affection towards the young MP."

Jagan was accompanied by Subhash Chandrabose, 28 members of state assembly and four members of legislative council belonging to the party. This is the first time that such a large number of party legislators shared a public platform with Jagan.

With 156 members in 294-member assembly, Congress party has a wafer thin majority.

Analysts said with the support of 25 to 30 MLAs, Jagan can topple the Rosaiah government.

Rosaiah was made chief minister after Rajasekhara Reddy's death in a helicopter crash on Sep 2 last year. The Congress leadership ignored a strong demand from the loyalists of Rajasekhara Reddy to make his son the chief minister.
