Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed several parts of the state for the second day today under the influence of low pressure area that had formed over Bay of Bengal, south of Orissa yesterday.
Rains were widespread in coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam as also Krishna district. Highest rainfall was recorded at Bhadrachalam (16 cm).
The met department predicted heavy rain in the next 48 hours in Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema areas.
In Khammam, Warangal and Anantapur districts, rainfall was quite heavy. In Khammam, thousands of acres of crop in Velurupadu mandal is under rain water. Two control rooms were set up in Khammam and Bhadrachalam with telephone numbers 08742-231600 and 08743- 232444.
Road connectivity has been cut off for 80 villages and some colonies in Manuguru were marooned.
One culvert on Parikalavagu has been washed away in Yellandu division. Five tribals of Mustigudem were rescued between Tustigudem and Venkannagudem in Chintur mandal by the villagers, when they were trapped in Venkannagudem stream.
Meanwhile, Godavari has begun rising. At Bhadrachalam it touched a mark of 32.5 feet this evening and it may rise upto 35 feet this night but the level is still below the first warning level (43 ft).
In Warangal, the rain caused breaches to several tanks and inundated low-lying areas in the agency areas. Six shepherds who were stranded in a rivulet in Hansanpally were rescued by the district administration.
In about 35 mandals, rainfall was normal to heavy and Mahaboobabad received the highest rainfall of 46 mm.
The inflows into reservoirs are picking up with the Krishna catchment area receiving copious rains.
Almatti in Karnataka is brimming with water and as the inflows continued, the authorities have opened gates, letting down water at the rate of over one lakh cusecs. But the water is still being impounded in Narayanpur and as a result not much water is flowing down into Andhra Pradesh.
But as there are rains in the catchment of the river in AP too, inflows into Jurala have increased and at present they are of the order of 18,898 cusecs and the outflow was about 24,835 cusecs.
Similarly in Tungabhadra reservoir, inflows were about 56,242 cusecs and outflow was 1,091 cusecs, at Srisailam the inflow was 23,986 cusecs and outflow was about just 490 cusecs and whereas in Nagarjunasagar there were no inflows into the reservoir. In Godavari, Pennar and other basins the inflows were negligible.
Only Sri Ram Sagar and Singur reservoir in Godavari basin received some good inlows of 11,389 cusecs and 1,987 cusecs. |
